                                                INNOVATION MANAGEMENT

                                                 Model - HYDEL POWER PLANT

Hydel power plant or water power is power derived from the energy of falling water or fast running water, which may be harnessed for useful purpose.
There are three types of hydel power plant :
  • Impoundment
  • Diversion
  • Pumped storage.

Some power plants use dams and some do not. Hydro power plants range in size from small systems for a home or village to large projects producing electricity for utilities.
The most common type of hydroelectric power plant uses a dam on a river to store water in a reservoir.

Uses of hydro power energy like wind energy , hydro power energy is mostly used for electricity generation and accounts for almost 20% of the total global electricity production. Another major but mostly unknown use of hydro power is for storing energy.

This video is the working of hydro power plant. The force of moving water is very powerful and a hydel electric plant uses the force to generate electricity. Hydel electric plants are built near moving water such as a river and also man-made facilities Busch as dams that creates moving water. The potential energy of the falling water is converted to mechanical energy as the force of water turns to the turbine. The generator connected to the turbine rotates , converting the mechanical energy to electrical energy.

OPERATION
In hydroelectric power station , the kinetic energy developed due to gravity in a falling water from higher to lower head is utilized to rotate a turbine to produce electricity. The potential energy stored in the water at upper water level will release as kinetic energy when it falls to the lower water level. This turbine rotates when the following water strikes the turbine blades. To achieve a head difference of water hydroelectric are generally constructed in hilly areas. In the way of the river in hilly areas, an artificial dam is constructed to create required water head. From this dam water is allowed to fall toward downstream in a controlled way to turbine blades. As a result, the turbine rotates due to the water force applied to its blades and hence the alternator rotates since the turbine shaft is coupled with alternator shaft.
Hydro Electric Power Generation System

Conclusion:

The uses of hydro power is economical, helps conserve our fossil fuels, and is a clean , environmentally friendly source of energy. We should encourage the use of hydropower because it doesn't cause air pollution or greenhouse gasses. Hydro power is one of the cleanest sources of energy and is also the most reliable and cheapest.Hydroelectric power plants ensure reliable delivery of electricity by enabling a steady and regular production of electricity which isn't the same with other renewable energy sources like solar and wind energy.
Hydroelectric power plants have very long history of use, and generate the largest share of renewable energy in the world, much more than solar, wind and geothermal energy do.
The lake that forms as a result of building hydroelectric power plant isn't only used for generating electricity but can also be used for irrigation and recreational tourism in form of water sports, fishing, swimming, and boating.
Using hydro power has mostly great advantages. It could help us make more electricity faster, consistently and sustainable for the future.
